"Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole"
A week ago, on February 18th our Pearl turned 1 year old! Yes, we even celebrate the dogs birthdays around here. Or at least acknowledge their day:)
I can't believe it was almost a year ago that my world was turned upside down when Dale said, "Let's go look at Beagle puppies." A puppy was the last thing I wanted or needed, much less a Beagle! Being a one dog family was just fine with me, but my family all wanted another dog! Of course guess who ended up doing most of the work! It was not easy going through "puppy hood" with Pearl. She has a mind of her own and she was always into anything and everything. Faith could not take all the puppy nipping and scratching and every day was a battle trying to keep Pearl from jumping up on her. House training took forever with her. Beagles are very stubborn!
Ohhhh but it didn't take long for those eyes to completely melt my heart and for me to totally fall in love with her. She has grown out much of her puppy hood (thank goodness!!) but she can still be a handful! We have learned we have to keep the chairs pushed away from our kitchen table or she will jump on the chairs onto the table and then from the table onto the counter! Even Faith has the routine down.
Faith has come to love Pearl too and they are now the best of friends. Pearl has also been so good for Ruby our Golden. They have a special relationship and some of Ruby's wonderful Golden traits have rubbed off on Pearl.
I love the way Pearl will jump into our laps as soon as we sit down on the sofa and curl up on us just like a cat.
I love the way she sits by the window and looks out at us as we leave and as we are coming home.
She is our "one of a kind" Pearl and we're so glad she is ours. Every day is some kind of adventure with her!
Pearls for Pearl!!
(I found this dog pearl collar at Pier I. Just perfect for our Pearl! And they were only $4!)

I've had many things chewed up from her including this basket! Thankfully those puppy days are over with her wanting to chew everything."Every boy should have two things; a dog, and a mother willing to let him have one."
And we will end this post in honor of Pearl with a video clip of her singing while Dean is practicing his saxophone. It is the funniest thing.....every time the boys practice their instruments Pearl "howls" right along with them. (I was getting ready to take Faith to her dance lesson so that is her dancing around in the background)"A house is not a home until it has a dog!"
